Propertymark is urging the UK Government to provide grants, interest-free loans, and tax incentives to help landlords meet the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) requirements by 2030. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband confirmed that landlords must ensure properties reach at least an EPC C rating within six years. The Government is still considering support measures for private landlords.

Currently, properties with an EPC rating below E cannot be let, with some exceptions. Propertymark advocates for tailored energy efficiency policies that reflect the diverse characteristics of private and owner-occupied homes. At the current rate, it could take until 2042 for all private rentals to meet the EPC A-C standard, according to Savills.

Tim Thomas, Policy and Campaigns Officer at Propertymark, emphasized the need for clarity and financial support, stating that without these, the UK may struggle to meet its 2050 Net Zero goals. He also called for details on exemptions and potential interim targets as the 2030 deadline approaches.
